Preparing for Asthma Season during the COVID-19 pandemic

Asthma is a common lung condition that affects 1 in 13 people.  Asthma is a serious condition that affects adults and children.  I want to share tips on how to prepare your family with moderate to severe asthma during the cold and flu season during the COVID-19 pandemic.  People with asthma are at a higher risk category of getting COVID-19.

COVID-19 may be more likely to affect an asthma sufferer’s respiratory tract (nose, throat, lungs).  This can cause an asthma attack and possibly lead to pneumonia and acute respiratory disease.

Prepare your home by stocking your shelves with the following items:

  • Medical equipment as needed
    • Nebulizer
    • Infant/pediatric/adult handheld pulse oximeter
    • Medical alert bracelet
    • Pediatric/Adult nebulizer mask
    • Pediatric/Adult spacer
    • Thermometer
  • Medical supplies for each individual (never shared)
    • Saline spray
    • Nasal aspirator
    • Syringes
    • Isopropyl alcohol wipes to wipe down medication delivery and other devices.
  • Prescription medications

Dallas Medical Enterprise is prepared to go over your action plan and provide you with the supplies and equipment you need to prepare for the unexpected during the cold and flu season.
